About Elaine

"From my point-of-view...Too many horror stories, too many unqualified professionals, too many uninformed homeowners..."

I have been in training for this consulting practice for over thirty years, starting out as administrative aide for a councilman and mayor of San Jose, California, interfacing on a daily basis with the planning, building and public works departments on major civic, commercial and residential projects. I then moved on to become a business and marketing principal for three prominent architectural firms in the Bay Area.

In 1998, I founded Business + Marketing Strategies, consulting with major firms involved in the design and construction industry, and helping them form and grow their businesses.  I teach a course in business and marketing for Sonoma State University’s Construction Management Program. I am unique, in that I have sat on both sides of the table...with homeowners, design/construction professionals, and government approval agencies; as both colleague and client...affording me a unique perspective in understanding everyone's role in the home remodel process, and what they need from one another to move toward a successful result for all concerned.

In addition, my husband and I have completed several complex home remodels, including a 1904 "Craftsman" style home, brought down to the studs and completely rebuilt. I am conducting seminars and workshops on home remodeling, throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, and will soon offer tele-classes for homeowners from afar!  When I come up for air, I work on my forthcoming book, Remodel without Remorse!

More biographical background: Born in Beloit, WI...graduated a Badger...love beer, bratwurst, and baseball!

"As an architect, it was a pleasure working with Elaine.  She clearly understands the importance of the bond formed by the triad of Owner-Architect-Contractor, bringing them together early in the design phase, working toward common goals."     Alex Bergtraun, AIA
